Affirming Celebration

Last Sunday we celebrated being an Affirming Congregation for three years. We will continue to be living into our affirming identity. Some of the ways we have done this so far:

  • Last year several of our guest preachers were chosen with this goal in mind.
  • During Renovation Team discussions non-gendered washrooms have been an important consideration in the developing plans.
  • Work by committees such as Abundant Hospitality and Pastoral Care has considered the variety of ways we need to be inclusive of all people in our events, programs, and approaches.
  • On May 22, the interactive evening with guest speaker “The Language of Diversity” will include, among other topics, time to think about the importance of our language regarding gender and sexuality.
  • When our congregation is approached as a possibility for weddings, our commitment to be an affirming congregation has been named as a reason for coming here – and not only by same sex couples.
