Lunch and Learn & Townhall Q and A

Today as a congregation we are seeing the ‘Vision’, and the questions related to the ‘Vision’. The Vision is approximately double our available funds so … over the next month or so we will be seeking more input on proposals about what will be done and what will not be done.

We are using the previous Q & A, the Lunch & Learn input cards, the active Listeners and emailed comments from people in the proposals to implement parts of the Vision.

Watch for next steps…

Here are the questions and answers generated for the team and the architects from two sessions held at the Leaside United Church hosted by the LUC Renovation Team … a Lunch and Learn on October 21st and a Townhall on October 28th.

Spotlight: The Community Kitchen at Leaside United Church

Community Kitchen Volunteers

The Community Kitchen at Leaside United Church began its eleventh year on Wednesday October 17, 2018. We are a dedicated group of people, some from our congregation and others from the Independent Studies program at Frontier College. Frontier College is a Canada-wide, volunteer-based literacy organization which teaches adults to read and write and nurtures an environment favourable to lifelong learning. Some of our members are currently studying at Frontier College while others are graduates.

The Community Kitchen meets once a month, October through May, to prepare and share a delicious and nutritious dinner. Every get-together has a literacy component in which we study something specific about food or its preparation or about eating healthy meals at a reasonable cost. We have grown since our beginning and are now 20 in number. Everyone agrees that we must keep what we are learning in mind as we shop for and prepare tasty and healthy meals at home. …

LUC Renovation Team Communiqué – Re-Cap Lunch & Learn

October 25, 2018

Last Sunday we enjoyed a time of discussion, reflection and feedback at a Lunch and Learn hosted by the LUC Renovation Team with guests Larkin Architects, Roberto Chiotto and Michael Nicholas-Schmidt.

The attendance and energy of the gathering was significant and appreciable. The questions were insightful and meaningful … watch for a detailed summary of the Q & A next week.

The  Renovation Team is now absorbing all the congregation comments and questions raised in order to prioritize our needs. Our next steps are to determine the key projects with our architects and fit these to our budget. Overall our desires will cost us about double our budget which unfortunately is not feasible or acceptable. We know people will understand  we can not fulfill every desire and there will be some people who may be disappointed. We are very fortunate to be in a position to have a good budget to work with and we do not wish to go over budget or be in a position to have to raise additional capital now or in the near future.

As requested here is the presentation we enjoyed by Larkin Architects at the Lunch & Learn on October 21st, 2018. …

Spirit Alive – November 10th – 10 am – Music and the Spirit

All Welcome to Spirit Alive Meeting – November 10th, 2018 at 10am at Leaside United Church

Music and the Spirit

Music has the capacity to raise and inspire human spirits. David Phillips will lead a conversation about “Music and the Spirit” when Spirit Alive meets on Saturday, November 10 at 10:00 am.

How does music raise our spirits? What kind of music would we view as being “spiritual”? What sort of music raises and inspires our spirit. Each participant is requested to name a piece of music that has raised their spirit at some point in their lives – and might be music that they return to when they feel the need for inspiration or renewal. Through the miracle of 21st century technology, we will try to play some of these pieces of music during the course of the Spirit Alive session.
