I am looking forward to 2020 at Leaside United! Thank you for all your thoughts and well wishes with Kieran’s arrival and the rest of my leave. It has been lovely to have the time getting used to my expanded family, but I’m enjoying connecting again with the work and worship of our congregation.
This Sunday we continue with the season of Christmas (yes, it doesn’t actually end until Monday – despite the appearance of Valentine’s Day chocolates!) We’ll take the opportunity to sing a few more Christmas carols, and a new LUC sung blessing. The choir will sing the beautiful Alleluia Introit, beginning our service with a sense of wonder and beauty. This week we’ll also have our first “Spiritual Sparks” insert that you can take home for further reflection, or to share with someone else.
In my sermon “Beginning with a God who pitches tents” I’ll think about the questions: What kind of beginning is the birth of that little baby Jesus? Where are we pitching tents and where is God?

Like to read the scripture ahead? This Sunday’s reading is: John 1:1-18
Families with children 0-4 years are warmly invited to participate in our Church for the Littlest Ones! This is a casual program for infants and young kids to explore spirituality with parents and older siblings through age appropriate stories and activities.
We will meet on Saturday, Jan 11, 9-10am in the Sanctuary of Leaside United Church. The topic will be “God is like breath.” Snacks will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact Natalie Jahn.
Spirit Alive will meet on Saturday, January 11th at 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
The Beatles were (and still are) a very popular singing group and many of their songs are expressions of thoughts and feelings about love, peace and thanksgiving.
David Phillips will lead a discussion and a consideration of the words and music of the Beatles and an exploration of the spirit of the Beatles over the past decades. Participants will be asked to name some of their favourite Beatles songs and are invited to bring along any Beatles’ memorabilia that may have been stored away just for an occasion such as this.
