The Fourth Sunday of Advent “A Mother, Once Dreaming”

Sunday, December 20, 2020

This Sunday is our last Sunday before Christmas. We light our final candle, the candle of Love. Today parents and their kid’s and youth will lead us in our Advent wreath candle lighting.

Our service this morning will include hearing Mary’s song (The Magnificat), along with a quartet by our section leads of an arrangement of “Away in A Manger.”

For those joining on Zoom, we will be greeting one another with the Peace of Christ, and also hearing Dr. Maya Angelou’s poem “Amazing Peace: A Christmas Poem.”

Our Stories and Crafts program will be shared at 9:50am on Zoom – a little earlier because it is slightly longer than usual. It can also be watched any time on YouTube. We hear the story of the birth of Jesus, and features a finger puppet nativity set.

Don’t forget about our Carols by Candlelight service tonight at 7pm! Friday’s email includes information on how to give to Out of the Cold at Eastminster, as well as the Service Order.

Look for emails on Tuesday and Thursday for more about:

Third Sunday of Advent – Sunday December 13

This Sunday families will lead us in lighting our candles of Hope and Peace, and the lighting our third candle of Joy. Other parents, youth, and children lead us in our Advent candle lighting during other services.

We’ll sing “People Look East” and have a sneak peak of our renovated sanctuary (almost done)! For those joining us on Zoom, we will take time to light candles for Hope, Peace, and Joy.

Don’t forget, you can also join Zoom at 11:15am for a time of conversation following the 10:30 service even if you don’t watch the full service on Zoom.

For our Stories and Crafts program, gather at 9:45am to watch the program at 9:55am, or watch any time on YouTube.

This Evening
Northlea UC welcomes us to join their Christmas Comfort and Consolation Service at 7pm on Zoom. Please email Emily (emily@leasideuc.com) for the link.

Next Sunday
In the morning, we will light our fourth candle of Love, and hear Mary’s song (the Magnificat) as our scripture reading.

In the evening we look forward to our Carols by Candlelight service at 7pm, which is a collaboration between Leaside UC and Northlea UC. If you’ve been wanting more music this Christmas, save the date for next Sunday – and be sure to tell others as well!

Second Sunday of Advent – December 6, 2020

If you are able to join worship over Zoom we will be sharing a pageant this morning. It has been coordinated by Rosedale United Church, and their children and youth have speaking roles.

If you cannot join by Zoom, please note the separate temporary pageant link. This will only be up for a few days, to help protect the privacy of our families.

The Stories and Crafts program will once again begin at 9:55am this morning. All ages are welcome to gather at 9:45 to watch it together, or any time on YouTube.

Our worship this morning also includes music shared by Fairlawn Avenue United Church, and a reflection on Mark 1:1-8.

Next Sunday
Our third Sunday of Advent (Joy) will include the hymn “People Look East.” We will also have the opportunity, over Zoom, to light candles for Hope, Peace, and Joy in our lives and in the world.

Also, don’t forget that December 10th is our Christmas Tea, and everyone is invited!
