Christmas is coming soon – and so does Leaside United Church’s annual Christmas Pageant!
This year, the Christmas Pageant will be performed on Sunday, Dec 15th at 10:30am during the Sunday service at Leaside United Church.
The Pageant is called “Papa Panov’s Special Christmas”, and it’s an adapted short story by Leo Tolstoy, but it was originally written in French by Ruben Saillens in 1888. The pageant tells about an old shoemaker’s Christmas Eve experience and demonstrates the virtues of kindness and compassion. It’s based on a verse from the Bible, Matthew 25:35: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”
I’m warmly inviting you to participate in the pageant!
You can perform a minor or major speaking role or a non-speaking role. If you are interested in performing, just let me know as early as possible and I will send you the script so that you can decide which speaking or non-speaking role you would like to perform. And don’t worry, you don’t have to learn anything by heart – all parts are reading parts.
If you don’t feel comfortable with performing, you can help with making the props. We will work on the props during the Children’s Program on Sundays, starting from Sunday, Nov 24th.
We will meet for the dress rehearsal on Saturday, Dec 14th at Leaside United Church. The exact time will be announced closer to the date. However, we do practice reading the speaking roles with the children on Sundays during the Children’s Program as well.
I’m warmly inviting you, children, teenagers and parents, to participate in the pageant! This is a wonderful opportunity to engage in an all ages project and to think about kindness and compassion not just intellectually but also practically. By performing in a safe and welcoming space you can as well work on your performing skills and practice speaking in front of people without any pressure to be perfect.
If you are interested in performing, please let me know!
Thanks, and see you soon!
