Highlights of “The Three Questions”

On Mother’s Day, Leaside United Church presented the play “The Three Questions”.

“The Three Questions” was written by Jon J. Muth, based on a story by Leo Tolstoy. It’s a thoughtful story for all ages, focusing on the essential questions “When is the best time to do things?”, “Who is the most important one?” and “What is the right thing to do?”.

The children of the Sunday morning Children’s Program have worked on the props for many weeks – on paper flowers, foam butterflies, paper plates ladybugs, colorful animal masks, a big tree with numerous paper leaves … the props looked amazing!

The play was performed by eight very talented and enthusiastic performers. It was an inter-generational performance indeed with our youngest performers being 5 and 6 years old! They performed the play in three acts, telling the story of the boy Nikolai who struggles with the essential question of ‘how to be a good person’. To find reliable answers he asks his friends Sonya, the heron, Gogol, the monkey and Pushkin, the dog the simple but challenging three questions “When is the best time to do things?”, “Who is the most important one?” and “What is the right thing to do?”. His friends try their best to help Nikolai but he feels that their answers are not quite right. His quest for answers finally leads him far up into the mountains where he meets the old and wise turtles Leo and Maya. After a storm and a dramatic rescue mission of two pandas Nikolai finally finds the answer to his three questions … make sure to check out this book if you haven’t yet.

Thank you so much for your support, performing, and crafting – without all of your help this play would not have been possible!
