LUC Renovation Project Update:
The Renovation Team wishes to thank everyone for your interest, enthusiasm, involvement and feedback as we progress towards the implementation phase of the renovation project.
On Wednesday December 12, 2018 the Renovation Team presented the scope of work for the total project to the Church Council. An excellent discussion culminated in unanimous acceptance of the four page Motion which outlined:
– the scope of work
– the anchor construction budget
– the architect & construction management fees
– permit costs
– Net HST
– contingency allowance
– and project sequencing and phasing

The renovation team found the results of the recent feedback survey and additional input after the November 24th Lunch and Learn very helpful in defining the key directions and desires of the majority of the congregation members. CLICK HERE to see the interesting survey results. As a congregation you indicated:
– a strong 95% agreement and support for a welcoming and accessible building projects
– 67% indicated that the proposed landscaping plans should be a high priority
– offices and meeting rooms should not be a top priority however more meeting and gathering spaces are required
– 75% indicated that the basic gymnasium repairs are a top priority
– the majority felt this scope of work finds the right balance between affordability and vision
– the congregation is very split on the subject of keeping the wooden pews versus flexible seating in a multi-use sanctuary:
39% want pews to remain
39% would like flexible seating
22% want a mix of pews and flexible or don’t care
Pew removal is not in the budget as there is structural investigation that has to be done to see if this option is even feasible or affordable. Once we have the information to make an informed decision we will come back to the congregation and council with a recommendation in the near future.
The Renovation Team is very appreciative of the faith and support that the congregation and Church Council have provided to them as we move forward.
