Choir Anthem: Morning Hymn by Patrick Murray (1990 – )
First voice of dawn,
last carol of the evening sun,
Through time eternal
and what may gloriously be
you carry me,
you speak my language,
Music.
How shall we touch the rafters,
Raise the roof,
Disturb the sky,
How shall we mark the rhythm of our days,
in celebration of the language of the heart,
You speak my soul.
And we shall sing through silence when it falls,
We shall go deep,
for twilight and the dawning are bridged
by the blessed hymns of God.
– Patricia Orr
Offertory Solo: An Irish Blessing by James E. Moore (1951 – )
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
Until we meet again,
may God, hold you in the palm of his hand.
May the sun make your days bright,
may the stars illuminate your nights.
May the flowers bloom along your path,
your house stand firm against the storm.
And until we meet again,
Until we meet again,
may God, hold you in the palm of his hand.

About this morning’s choral music …
Choir Anthem: Morning Hymn is a choral work composed by Patrick Murray. Patrick Murray is a Canadian composer and conductor. Murray serves as conuctor of the chorale, co-conductor of Western University Singers and conductor of the Huron University Chorus. In 2017, Murray was asked to compose a new anthem for the Summer Institute of Church Music chorale in honour of Patricia Wright, organist and music director at Metropolitan United Church in Toronto. Patricia Wright is being awarded the Fellowship of the Summer Institute of Church Music, in recognition of her lifetime achievements. Fittingly, the text is from poet Patricia Orr, a poet in residence and congregant at Metropolitan United Church. The Virtual Choir Project formed by music director Matthew Boutda, had the privilege of collaborating with Patrick Murray in the process of recording.
Offertory Solo: An Irish Blessing is composed by James E. Moore. James Moore is a composer, conductor, pianist, and teacher, currently resides in Vienna, Austria, where he serves as a professional coach and teaches voice and conducting. This choral work, An Irish Blessing, have been sung, recorded, and appear in hymnals throughout the world. Prior to his move to Vienna, he served as Director of Music at St. Agnes Parish in Cincinnati, Ohio, and as Assistant Professor of Music and Liturgy at the Athenaeum of Ohio Theological Seminary. This beautiful Irish blessing, is recorded by the section leads of the Leaside Chancel Choir. This blessing is fitting for this service because it brings comfort during this time and celebrates the anniversary of the coming together between Presteign-Woodbine and Leaside United Church.
