On the Fifth Sunday in Lent Courtney Dakers was our guest flutist and we heard the beautiful prelude, O Mensch Bewein by JS Bach. We heard a little about the Gospel according to Thomas (Thomas 97:1-4), and pondered a new parable for the Kingdom of Heaven. After the service we had a Spring Luncheon with a variety of hot soups and sandwiches, and desserts. To view the service, please click on thisLINK.
Rev. Emily was away so we celebrated the Fourth Sunday in Lent with Cheryl Stenson, a Licensed Lay Worship Leader (LLWL) in the United Church. Her reflection was on “Turning the Other Cheek” as we continued our Jesus Said What?! Lenten theme. Matthew continued with the Lenten Improvisations on favourite hymns. We celebrated the third Sunday in Lent by hearing the parable of the Vineyard Labourers (Matthew 20:1-15). Our opening hymn was Spirit, Open My Heart, and Matt played the first of our Lenten Improvisation Offertories. To view the service, click on this LINK.
We heard a reading from the Gospel according to Matthew, as well as a couple of verses from the Gospel according to Thomas (which we will hear read one other Sunday during Lent). We also heard two anthems, Stainer’s God So Loved the World, and Mendelssohn’s Lift Thine Eyes. Our closing hymn was the lovely ‘Tis the Gift to Be Simple. To view the service, click on this LINK.
