The Song of Hannah – Sunday November 14th, 2021

Today’s service will be shared as a livestream on YouTube and Zoom as well as in-person, beginning with a prelude leading up to 10:30am. Registration is no longer required for in-person worship, but proof of vaccination must be shown each time.

Lectio Divina (“divine reading”) is a way of reading and reflecting on scripture slowly to pay attention to how it is speaking to our lives. Today we will practice Lectio Divina together, focusing on the story of Hannah, the mother of Samuel, and particularly of the song she sings when she learns she is expecting (parts of which are later echoed by Mary’s song, the Magnificat). Our lectio divina will be accompanied by short piano mediations and an anthem “Holy is the True Light” by Harris. Our final hymn will be “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”

Stories and Makers Nest

Today we continue with part 3 of the story of Moses – the Exodus. For the craft today you will need construction paper, scissors, tape, and markers.

Next Sunday
November 21st we mark Children’s Sunday with a service that will include a Junior Virtual Choir Project.

Worship will begin with a baptism live in the sanctuary. Since the parents have decided not to have their child online, the baptism will not be livestreamed.
The livestream will begin immediately following the baptism, at approximately 10:40am. On Zoom, there will be an additional opportunity for conversation. If you are attending on YouTube, you are welcome to linger over brunch a little longer. If you are attending in-person, you are invited to arrive a couple of minutes earlier to be sure you are seated by the service start.

Then, on November 28 we begin the season of Advent. We will be sharing more about Advent and Christmas soon, as we look forward to ways to worship together inside, outside, and online!

Remembrance Sunday – November 7th, 2021

Today’s service will be shared as a livestream on YouTube and Zoom as well as in-person, beginning with a prelude leading up to 10:30am. Today we mark Remembrance Sunday with two minutes of silence, as well as in music, readings and prayers.

Our music includes a virtual choir project with a beautiful arrangement of “Abide With Me” accompanied by piano and trumpet. Our hymns carry the theme of peace and we will close hearing Stephen Chatman’s “Remember.”

Our scripture includes a verses from Micah, sharing a vision from peace, and a gospel story. The readings will also include “In Flanders Fields.”

The Stories and Makers Nest

Today we continue hearing the story of Moses. For today’s craft we will need a plastic cup, an exacto knife or scissors (and a grown up nearby), construction paper, tape, and markers.

Next Sunday

November 14th our focus is The Song of Hannah – another lesser heard passage of scripture (like Naomi and Ruth a few weeks ago and David and Jonathan in June). As we listen to Hannah’s song we might begin to anticipate how it will be echoed by Mary’s song (the Magnificat), beginning to point us toward Advent.

We will be sharing more about Advent and Christmas soon, as we look forward to ways to worship together inside, outside, and online!

Remembrance Sunday – November 7th, 2021

This Sunday November 7th will be our Remembrance Sunday service, with our next virtual choir project of the fall as well as two minutes of silence.

You can participate in-person with COVID guidelines in place (see list of guidelines here) with no capacity limits and no registration required.

And/or you can watch the Livestream service on YouTube, click here starting at 10:25am. The service will be recorded and made available to watch afterwards if you are not available to watch the Livestream, you will be able to see it on your schedule at the Leaside United YouTube channel here.

And you can gather on Zoom to watch with others. The children’s program Stories and Maker’s Nest will begin at 9:55am and Worship will begin at 10:30am. If you would like to jump on Zoom for conversation you are welcome to connect to Zoom after the service (watch your email for Zoom link, if you are not signed up please use the eNewsletter link here on the website to sign up).

In-Person Worship

November 4, 2021

Starting this Sunday November 7th, we will no longer require registration, or have a capacity limit on our in-person Sunday attendance. In order to make this possible, if you are attending in-person and are over the age of 12, you must show proof of vaccination every time.

While we do not yet have an in-person children’s program, children under the age of 11 are welcome to attend and stay with their family during the service. Children may borrow books or colouring materials to use during the service from the children’s area, and one family may choose to use the children’s area rather than being seated in the pews.

Please follow these guidelines for in-person worship in order to keep the experience as COVID safe as possible:

  • In order to enter the building, each person must be fully vaccinated if they are over the age of 12, or have a medical exemption (you must speak to Emily Gordon in advance about the medical exemption), and fill out an attestation form, if you have not already done so.
  • Wear a mask at all times in the building.
  • Maintain social distancing from those not in your bubble whenever possible.
  • Arrive at the church 10 minutes before the service begins to show proof of vaccination, sign in and find your seat.
  • Please arrive on time to facilitate sign in and showing proof of vaccination.
  • Everyone will use the Main Millwood (ramp) entrance to enter, sign in, and exit the building.
  • If you have any COVID symptoms, have had contact with a known COVID case, or are waiting for the results of a COVID test you must stay and worship at home.
  • During in-person worship, please remain seated during hymns and do not sing.
  • Following worship, if you wish to speak to other attendees, you are invited to exit the building first, and do so on the lawn.
