Kids & Youth

Second Sunday of Advent – December 6, 2020

If you are able to join worship over Zoom we will be sharing a pageant this morning. It has been coordinated by Rosedale United Church, and their children and youth have speaking roles.

If you cannot join by Zoom, please note the separate temporary pageant link. This will only be up for a few days, to help protect the privacy of our families.

The Stories and Crafts program will once again begin at 9:55am this morning. All ages are welcome to gather at 9:45 to watch it together, or any time on YouTube.

Our worship this morning also includes music shared by Fairlawn Avenue United Church, and a reflection on Mark 1:1-8.

Next Sunday
Our third Sunday of Advent (Joy) will include the hymn “People Look East.” We will also have the opportunity, over Zoom, to light candles for Hope, Peace, and Joy in our lives and in the world.

Also, don’t forget that December 10th is our Christmas Tea, and everyone is invited!

Advent and Christmas together!

Leaside United Church is pleased to offer a full range of services during the Advent season, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The building may be closed but church is still open online! Join us on Zoom (sign up for our eNewsletters for access to Zoom links) or YouTube to enjoy many different services. Lot’s to enjoy during this season of Advent and Christmas. Blessings to us all!

Through Darkness and Splendour – Sunday Nov 29th

Advent 1

Can you believe Advent is here?

This morning, Robbie will visit and remind us of what to watch for during Advent. Thank you to Rev. James Lepard, along with Michele Petick, for sharing Robbie with us once again. We will also sing a couple of Advent favourites, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” and “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus.”

This morning, we are pleased to have Amy, Joe, Kirby and Quinn lead us as we light our first candle for Advent, the candle of hope. In the weeks ahead we will be led by other parents, youth, and children.

If you are joining by Zoom, we will also hear our Moderator’s Advent message, and sing the Hope verse of a recent hymn that we will all sing together on Christmas Eve.

For our Children’s program, we will be making a Hope decoration for your tree. Watch at 9:55 on Zoom, or any time on YouTube.

Next Sunday:
We have been invited to collaborate with Rosedale on a pageant, but will be sharing it online over Zoom rather than as a public link because of privacy concerns for some of our children. We hope you will be able to join us on Zoom Sunday morning, or watch the temporary link shared by church family email.

Please return to this past Thursday’s Advent and Christmas email for everything else happening this Advent and Christmas season!

Who’s Got Talent? With Guest Preacher Sunday November 15 Rev. Marlene Britton

Rev. Marlene Britton

This Sunday we are pleased to welcome the Rev. Marlene Britton, a diaconal minister who is Program Coordinator, Admission and Pastoral Relations with General Council. Her sermon “Who’s Got Talent?” explores Matthew 25:14-30.

Our service will be enriched by music by the Uniting Voices Collective – Matt Boutda with four other Toronto Music Directors.

On Zoom this morning at 10:30, we will be joined by Rev. Marlene Britton who will share Pastoral Prayers, and we will sing “I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me.”

Come for our Stories and Crafts program to hear about messages of hope (gather at 9:45 to start at 9:55, or watch any time on YouTube).

Next Sunday
November 22 we will celebrate communion together over Zoom. Bring some bread, crackers, or pita, along with juice or wine, as we share this sacrament with one another.

Then, November 29 is our first Sunday of Advent. We will light our first candle – Hope, as we move into the season leading us to Christmas.
