Emily’s Weekday Wonderings – May 29th, 2018

Our church’s Birthday Celebration is coming up! On June 10th it will be one year since the coming together of Leaside United Church and Presteign-Woodbine United Church as one new congregation.

So why bother celebrating birthdays (church birthdays or our own birthdays)?

I think there are several reasons that apply:

  • They recognize where we have been, what we have accomplished, and what we have learned – an opportunity for reflection and thanksgiving.
  • They are a witness to the strength of joy, love, and hope in the face of fear, sorrow, and uncertainty.
  • They celebrate the inherent goodness of all life.

How will we be celebrating our church’s birthday on June 10th? …

Welcome to our Summer Intern Adam Uhrynuk

Make sure to say “HI” to a new face at Leaside United Church, our Summer Intern, Adam Uhrynuk, who is currently working in Music Director, Sharon Beckstead’s office for the next 14 weeks doing music and archival work.

Here is a brief bio of Adam’s experiences:

Upon completing secondary school, Adam was accepted to Queen’s University in Kingston. While there, he accepted a General History major, and was able to graduate in the Spring of 2017. Afterward, he applied to the Fleming College Museum Management and Curatorship program. His work at Leaside United Church is his internship placement to fully complete the course.

In the past, Adam’s first job was working as a lifeguard and camp counsellor at Camp Muskoka in the Bracebridge area. Adam then took a summer job up at Sauble Beach, where he worked at Fretz’ Valu-Mart for two summers. His most recent job before his current position was as a law filing clerk at McBride Wallace Laurent and Cord LLP.

In his personal life, Adam has a great interest in vocal music, having participated in youth choirs in the past. He also has a deep love and respect for animated features, as he was on the executive council for the Queen’s Anime Club and has gone to AnimeNorth for several years, and would attend FanExpo and Toronto Comic-Con, but have always had conflicting commitments. He is an amateur cosplayer, fully embracing the culture and atmosphere by dressing up as his favourite characters for these events.

WELCOME ADAM!
