Virtual Choir

Worship – Music Sunday May 30, 2021

This Sunday we will celebrate music, sharing reflections on hymns and an anthem rather than a sermon. Music speaks to our souls, gives room for our emotions, and connects us with one another. We will return to a wonderful virtual choir anthem, sing some favourite hymns and share the Creed together. On Zoom the service will include more hymn reflections and Our Community Prayer.

Join us after the service, at 11:15am for a time of conversation.

For the Stories and Makers Nest, come at 9:55am or watch any time on YouTube.

Next Sunday
For our Reflections and Connections Sunday we have two different options. On Zoom we will share in communion, have a time of candle lighting, and offer time for reflection. Remember to bring bread and juice to the Zoom service next Sunday. On YouTube, we will share a number of meaningful services from the wider Church, and you can choose what will be most meaningful for you. Or if you have the technology, you can share in worship both ways next week.

Pentecost Sunday – May 23, 2021

Today we welcome Lee-Ann Ahlstrom, Minister at Northlea United Church, in the first of two sermon and music exchanges with Northlea. Both Leaside and Northlea will hear Lee-Ann’s sermon as well as music from both congregations. The second part of our sermon and music exchange will be in June. It is a blessing to share in worship once again with our sister congregation.

This Sunday our service will be the same on Zoom and YouTube. You are invited to watch either way, but join Zoom at 11:10am for a time of conversation following the service.

If you would like to take part in a breakout room discussion before the service, join Zoom by 10:15am – or come even earlier and watch the Stories and Makers Nest at 9:55am. The program will also be about Pentecost and the Holy Spirit, and the activity will be a scavenger hunt that you can do sometime during the week.

Next Sunday

On May 30th our service will celebrate music, including some hymn favourites and reflections about how hymns and music speak to our spirits.

Singing Joy? | Sunday May 16th, 2021

The word joy appears times in the gospel according to John during the Farewell discourse, Jesus’ final words to the disciples on the night before his death. Today we ask the question: How do we talk, and sing, about joy during difficult times?

Our service will include music recorded last fall by the Uniting Voices Collective, Matt and four other music directors in Toronto. Our hymns will feature guitar, and we will hear the solo “Homeward Bound.”

On Zoom, the service will also include time to share your own favourite joke or pun, prayers and the Lord’s Prayer.
If you would like to share in conversation before the service (as well or instead of after), join Zoom by 10:15 to be placed in a breakout room. Or come even earlier for our Stories and Makers Nest program at 9:55 on Zoom, or any time on YouTube.

Next Sunday

May 23 is the first of two sermon and music exchanges with Northlea United Church. We will hear a Pentecost sermon by Northlea’s minister Lee-Ann Ahlstrom, and music will feature recordings from both Leaside and Northlea. Then, on June 20 we will have our second exchange, with both congregations hearing a sermon by Emily.
