Come for our third All Ages Drop In Afternoon of the fall! On Dec. 2 from 12:30-4pm Emily and others will lead decorating for Christmas, crafts and more at our Advent Event!
We will decorate the sanctuary Christmas Tree, decorate cookies, make Advent Wreaths for your wall or fridge, spend some time outside (weather permitting), have a snack (cookies!), and take home advent calendars.
This summer we are sharing some of our worship services with Northlea United Church; NUC will join us some weeks and we will join them on others, and we will also have some guest leadership.
Here is how you can worship over the summer months:
Every Sunday up to August 7 Attend Leaside UC In-Person and on Zoom (10:30am) or, on YouTube (any time)
August 14 Communion on Zoom (10:30am)
August 21 & 28 Join Northlea UC In-Person (10:30am) or, on YouTube (later in the day)
In the Wild will have a potluck lunch and nature scavenger hunt at 11:45am on July 17 on the Church Lawn. On August 14 (a change to the 2nd Sunday) we will have an afternoon nature walk (more details to come).
Meet U will have two Zoom gatherings on July 13 and Aug 10 at 10:30am.
Meditation Group, Spirit Alive, and Arts and Crafts group will all resume in the fall.
A Time for Prayer will resume after the September long weekend. If you would like a short time of prayer during your week, you can watch this recording: https://youtu.be/dj1j4MInWvk
As our regular groups slow down over the summer, you are invited to sign up for the Small Spiritual Practices emails as a way to stay connected, and take part in worship in-person and online. Contact Rev. Emily for more information.
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
The church will be open Tuesday Wednesday Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm during June, July and August.
This Sunday we mark both Father’s Day and Indigenous Day of Prayer. We begin the service with a focus on prayer, including singing Psalm 42 together (As the Deer Pants for the Water) and sharing prayers written by the Rev. Nancy Best and the Rev. Jan Jorgenson (more information below).
Our service continues into a consideration of Father’s Day, and closes with the familiar hymn “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling.”
Looking Ahead
On June 26 we will share a Pride Sunday service with a rainbow candle lighting liturgy.
On July 3 we will mark Canada Sunday, with Matt and all four leads offering musical leadership. Our music will include the hymn “Let Us Build a House”, anthem “All the Little Rivers of Canada”, the National Anthem, and more.
Please note that the timing is a little different this week:
In-Person: Arrive at 10:20am for a guest prelude, followed by a live baptism in-person only, and Lemonade on the Lawn after the full service.
Zoom: Gather as usual for an extra chance to start before the service begins after the live baptism.
YouTube: The livestream will begin 7-10 minutes later than usual.
Following the service we will also post the prelude as a recording so everyone can enjoy it!
All Ages Story Time moved online: Due to the likelihood of rain on Sunday, our All Ages Story Time will happen online at 9:50am over Zoom, and we will also try to post it later be posted online (on the Stories and Maker’s Nest playlist). Our theme is Mindfulness.
This Sunday, is our Church Birthday! In 2017 – 5 years ago! – Leaside United Church and Presteign-Woodbine United Church came together to form our new congregation. So much has happened since then! A renovation and a pandemic, just to name a few…
On Sunday, the Stewardship committee will be sharing the annual slideshow to highlight the many things our community has done over the past year. There will also be Lemonade on the Lawn following the service.
We encourage you to attend worship in person to celebrate the sacrament of baptism, and arrive at 10:20am for the prelude by our Director of Music Emeritus – Gerald van Wyck. For those not attending in person, we will post the recording later in the day.
We look forward to the many ways we will celebrate our Church Birthday, all that we have done together, and all that we are this Sunday!
