Water & Wonder II – Sunday, September 21, 2020

This week we continue our “Water and Wonder” theme as we listen to a story from Exodus.

On YouTube, we’ll hear the solo “Silent Noon” by Vaughan Williams, as well as the hymns “I Have Peace Like a River” and “Will Your Anchor Hold.”

On Zoom, we will also take time to light candles sharing joys and sorrows. Also, you might like to wear blue, or to be near water, as we continue our water theme.

Gather at 9:45 am for “Stories and Crafts” which will start at 9:55 am – open to all ages – or follow the link in this email to watch the program on your own at any time. For the craft, you’ll need a toilet paper roll, construction paper, a pencil, a marker or pencil crayon, a ruler, tape or glue, and scissors.

Join Zoom by 11:15 am for a time of conversation and connection. Emily will also be sharing a short video for those interested on Universal Basic Income, as part of the action encourage by the UCC this week.

Looking Ahead:

For our next book study, we will be reading 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act by Bob Joseph. This will take place over 4 meetings, every two weeks starting mid-October. Please fill in this doodle poll to help choose a time, or contact Emily if you are interested: https://doodle.com/poll/pxwrf2i7fs2h575e

You might consider ordering the book from www.goodminds.com – a First Nations family owned business located on the Six Nations of the Grand River. Here are other opportunities ahead this fall in a journey from “not racist” to anti-racism – more details to come:

  • Save the date for Tuesday Oct. 6, when we will have a discussion of the United Church of Canada anti-racism policy.
  • Listening Times will continue monthly. Stay tuned for our next date in late September.

Worship Service – Sunday September 6, 2020

This past Sunday was our last of the summer, and we spent a little time thinking about Forgiveness as a Spiritual Practice.
Our service on YouTube includes Emily’s reflection and a prayer with sung response you can see it below. On Zoom our service included wishing one another Peace and a beautiful anthem shared by Islington United Church.

Please join us next Sunday, September 13th for our first Virtual Baptism!  This will launch this year’s Creation Time as we celebrate the earth, beginning with water.

Next week September 13th, we begin Creation Time, as we celebrate the goodness of the earth and remember our responsibility to it. We will begin with water – and (weather permitting) we will share a virtual outdoor baptism on Zoom as the first part of the service.

We look forward to worshiping with you virtually,
Rev. Emily Gordon and Director of Musicm Matthew Boutda (Worship planning team)
